The Ultimate Unplugging: Going Blind and My Next Steps
When I set out on my 3-month unplugged plan, I focused on turning off devices. But life had a bigger “off-switch” planned. I am currently dealing with the reality of sight loss, a profound transformation with no set deadline for completion. This uncertainty has completely rewired my perspective on Holistic Integration & Personal Growth. Instead of waiting to react, I’m choosing to be proactive. Every step I take—from learning to navigate my vegan kitchen to mastering new accessibility methods—is a step in building resilience. Here is an honest look at the process I’m embracing.

The Unplugging of Sight and the Recalibration of Being
The hardest part wasn’t losing the image; it was managing the uncertainty that came with it. My medical reality requires me to mourn the sight I had while actively learning to function without it—all while the clock is silent. I’ve found an unexpected mirror in my formal unplugged goal: letting go of one way of seeing allows a different kind of focus to emerge. I’m trading reliance on screens for reliance on my other senses and internal maps.

🧭 My Three-Part Process of Adaptation
The structure of my life is now my survival mechanism. The changes I’m embracing are less about managing a disability and more about mastering a new way of living.

1. Dealing with the Process: Choosing Proactivity over Passivity
The biggest challenge isn’t the physical reality of sight loss, but the mental reality of the unknown timeline. Instead of passively “dealing” with the inevitability, I’ve chosen to be proactive and master my mind. My daily meditation has become my non-visual anchor, centering me in the present, which is all I can truly ‘see.’ My body is now my primary navigational tool; my regular movement and strength workouts are essential for proactively building the spatial awareness and non-visual confidence I will rely on. I focus on the feel of the muscle, my breath, and the rhythm of my walking and personal exercises to map my future world.

2. Embracing the Change: Re-wiring Daily Life
This is where structure meets simplification. My vegan meals are pared down to essential, tactile, and aromatic building blocks to minimize kitchen waste and danger. My home organization is being radically redesigned for touch. This is about establishing new, non-visual routines that allow me to move effectively through my day and pursue tasks like hydroponics mastery with adapted methods.

3. Learning New Tools: Optimization and Independence
To maintain my independence, I must use new tools and methods strategically. This includes mastering various accessibility technologies to help with daily tasks. More profoundly, this is a commitment to optimization—finding the most efficient, non-visual way for every task to maintain control over my process and my life.

The Ongoing Process: Finding a New Sight
This journey of sight loss, like my Unplugged Living plan, is about letting go of what was easy in favour of what is meaningful. It’s about being radically present. I’m learning that true vision isn’t about what you see with your eyes; it’s about how clearly you see your purpose and how deeply you choose to engage with the process of living.
I won’t let blindness halt my growth. I will simply find new ways to connect, to learn, and to share my living process with you here.
My next post will be on learning to connect and communicate.
