On my birthday, I began my 3-month Unplugged/Hydroponics challenge. I’m two weeks into my journey, and I’m feeling both the calm and the chaos of being unplugged. The intentional disconnect has been a profound experience, challenging my deeply ingrained habits of constant connectivity.
It is tough. The urge to check my phone for every little notification is powerful, I’ve found myself reaching for my phone instinctively, a muscle memory honed over years of constant connection.
I’m also facing new challenges. There’s the subtle social anxiety of not being instantly reachable by friends and family, and the unexpected isolation that comes from removing the digital hum of the world. It’s not about being completely off-grid, but about being mindful and in control of my attention.
This new routine is creating space for the things that matter most. My daily walks have become a non-negotiable anchor, and are truly restorative, a time to simply be present with the world around me.
On the other side of this journey, my hydroponics project has been a significant learning curve. What I envisioned as a simple, automated garden has presented a steep but rewarding challenge. I’ve had to embrace the fact that mastery is a process, not an overnight achievement, and each day brings a new lesson in pH, nutrients, and the delicate balance of a thriving system.
While it’s only been two weeks, this journey is already teaching me the importance of being present. The challenge is real, but the peace and clarity I’m starting to find are well worth the effort.
I’ll be back in two weeks to share more updates on this experiment in unplugged living.
I’m committed to finding my rhythm with both of these projects. The journey is just beginning, and I’m looking forward to sharing the next chapter with you all.
