The Pace of Presence

50 Days In
In my last post, I reflected on “The Gift of the Present”—the idea that life isn’t found in the future we are building or the past we are analyzing, but in the micro-moments of the now. I talked about finding stillness in the quiet after my morning coffee and the rhythm of my walks through The Beaches.
Today, I find myself at a unique junction. I am exactly 50 days into my “Century Sprint,” with 50 days left to go before my upcoming birthday in August.
“Sprint” is a word that usually implies speed, a race to reach a finish line. But as I stand at this midpoint, I’ve realized that for me, this isn’t about running faster. It’s about cultivating a specific pace of presence.

Moving with Intention

Over these past 50 days, I’ve been “clearing the decks”—tidying the physical and digital spaces that often clutter our minds. Yet, the true success of this sprint hasn’t been in checking off boxes. It has been in how these actions have deepened my ability to be present.
Lately, I’ve found a simple joy in my new see-through bird feeder. Watching the birds come and go has become a quiet ritual—a reminder to pause and just observe. These practices, along with my experiments in the garden, aren’t just tasks; they are my way of engaging with the world, one thoughtful action at a time. By committing to them, I am choosing to show up for my life exactly as it is today.

Refining the Deck

What have I learned at this halfway mark? I’ve learned that “clearing the decks” is an ongoing process of subtraction. By removing the noise—the digital distractions, the unnecessary obligations —I’ve created more room to appreciate the stillness I wrote about recently.

The goal for these next 50 days is not to push harder, but to settle deeper into this rhythm. I want to arrive at my birthday not breathless from a race, but grounded in the practices that have defined this “Living Process.” In the quiet, when I watch the birds at my feeder or tend to my greens, I am reminded that life isn’t something to be managed; it’s something to be experienced.

The Road Ahead

As I look toward August, I am not thinking about the finish line as a point of completion. Instead, I am treating every day between now and then as an opportunity to practice the presence I value so much.
I am deeply aware that my time on this earth is very limited. That reality doesn’t bring me anxiety; instead, it brings me clarity. It serves as a constant, quiet reminder that the most important thing I can do is to truly experience love—for myself, for those who share this journey with me, and for the life I am living in this very moment.

How are you finding your own pace lately? Whether you’re sprinting toward a goal or simply trying to stay afloat, I’d love to hear how you are making space for the “now” and for love in your own life. Do you have a simple, everyday ritual or a quiet view from your own window that helps you stay grounded? I’d love for you to share a “micro-moment” of your day in the comments below.
