Finding my purpose will take longer than I thought, so I am going to focus on starting hobbies. It’s one way to find out more about yourself, your interests, likes, passions—and actually helps you find your purpose.
To this end, I have been doing a deep dive into my past, what I’ve done, enjoyed, disliked, been passionate about, found interesting, etc. You get the idea.
I found a “Hobby Rule” of sorts.
“One to make you money. One to keep you in shape. One to stay creative.”
There are a few other “rules” for hobbies but this works for me, and my hobbies have the potential for all three.
I kinda like the idea of doing something you love and making money from it.
I now have a list of hobbies that I personally want to explore. I still have a few ideas and am working on finding answers to some questions I have.
What do I need to start?
How do I start?
Would I enjoy it over time?
Would it challenge me to grow?
Could it lead into something new?
Could it lead to making money?
Is it healthy and productive for me?
Is this a hobby or an interest?
Is it a passion?
How much time can I spend on each?
In no particular order, here is my list of hobbies:
Rocks (collecting, possibly making jewelry)
Lenja (teaching, practice)
Electronics ( Pi 5, programming (python), robotics)
Plants (growing teas/herbs/medicines, hydroponics)
Lean AI (Chat GBT, programming)
Photography (camera)
Puppets (make design, volunteering)
Music (learn 3+ songs on ukulele)
Archery (practice, possibly building a bow)
Space (astronomy)
There are other options, of course, but I will start with these ones—at least some of them. Some require more money than I have for now.
I’ve been reading about hobbies and whether there is an ideal limit of hobbies to have. The short answer is no (at least for me). Mainly, it’s about time, money and the level of interest you have in them. If one doesn’t work anymore, or I lose interest, I can always try something new.
I am excited to start!
